Letter: A tired rusting 1970s logo

.

J McKevitt

Congratulations to Stephanie Hunt for expressing her opinion on the proposed steel kiwi statue at the hub (Beacon, October 7).

About 1909, an American critic said, “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like.”

So, he presumably knew what he didn’t like, and I’m much the same.

I’m with Stephanie. With all respect to the artist, the proposed statue looks to me like a tired rusting 1970s logo, from a defunct ad agency. I don’t like it, but what do I know?

I am happy to be shown to be out of touch, but can there be some discussion around whether this is what we want at our gateway?

Nga mihi.
