In support of the John Howard letter in Friday’s Beacon.

I agree with his comments regarding the flood risks and offer additional comment.

The waterway system is inadequate to handle the proposed development. In addition to the spill area known as Te Rahu Basin, there are additional drains that have run off under Station Road along Langenberger Road to a pump house into the Waioho Stream then into the Whakatāne River.

The potential for flooding is enhanced with the proposed development as the current drain system will not cope.

Another pump house will be needed for the Te Rahu canal where it goes under Paroa Road into the river.

I think the council need to look again at the whole picture as the potential for ongoing issues and consequences are real.
