I am resuming my campaign to achieve a reversal of the privatisation of clinical laboratory services in New Zealand.
I have tried to alert political and healthcare leaders of the dangers of this policy since I arrived in New Zealand 60 years ago.
My efforts have failed so far, but I am confident that we will eventually succeed as my list of supporters is lengthening rapidly.
It includes leaders in the UK, USA, Canada, and New Zealand who are experts in diagnosing infectious diseases.
I invite Beacon readers to stay tuned and step up when invited to do your bit.
You must all surely know of the importance prompt identification of disease bugs, and early treatment with the best antibiotic.
That ideal is not achievable in most communities like ours, and we in Whakatāne are able to make things happen once again.
I invite Beacon readers, especially those who work in healthcare, to visit the web and view the following webinar: A New Era of Hepatitis B (July 21, 2026). Eliminating HBV in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The presenter is Professor Ed Gane, who is on the board of the Hepatitis Foundation of New Zealand.
Professor Gane states in his lengthy presentation that the Whakatāne-based hepatitis virus centre is highly regarded by workers worldwide.
Gane spliced in a short segment giving credit to myself and Nobel Prize winner Baruch Blumberg and Professor Saul Krugman of New York who visited Whakatāne and Kawerau several times to support myself and Dr Chris Moyes, plus other workers in our teams who did the hard yards.
I added that paragraph advisedly, because beating the hepatitis B virus was made more difficult by officials who should have been leading.
It is all clearly documented that workers in Whakatāne were in the right all along.
I am now engaged in an even more serious health campaign, and have already endured 15 years of lies and deceit, as a local doctor has already reported to our defunct district health board.I will tolerate no more of that.
