A colourful mix of art, craft and handmade treasures will fill the Art House this week as the Whakatāne Arts and Crafts Society opens its annual Winter Exhibition.
Running from tomorrow until July 26, the exhibition features work from around 100 society members, alongside a selection of invited artists.
With winter in full swing, this year’s exhibition has a fitting focus on fibre arts, with an extensive display of hand-knitted garments, weaving and other wool creations.
“There’s a gorgeous collection of hand-knitted items, weaving and wool fibre work,” said ceramicist Pam Mossman.
Alongside the cosy winter wear is an extensive range of original artwork, ceramics, woodwork, and more.
“We also have some invited artists, including Mark Anstis,” Mossman said.
Visitors can admire Anstis’ striking oil landscapes, while painter Ellie Sharp will exhibit a collection of one-foot-square works, offering affordable options for those looking to add original art to their homes.
Visitors can watch members of the woodwork group in action.
“The woodworkers are going to have their woodworking room open, so people can see them working.”
