It was a full theatre for the screening of Taiarahia: Te Kākahu Tawhito, an award-winning documentary covering events 40 years ago when members of Te Māhurehure hapū occupied the maunga Taiarahia for six months and won their battle against plans to replace native bush with a commercial pine plantation.

Theatregoers had the opportunity to kōrero with Kim Webby (executive producer); Wikitoria Day (co-producer); and Harata Day (associate producer and participant in the occupation), and hear about the making of the film.

A repeat preview screening of this still unreleased documentary is being held at the De Luxe Theatre in Ōpōtiki on Tuesday, July 14 at 6.30pm.
