It’s time to pull out the swimsuit and summon some Nordic bravery with the Radio 1XX Mid-Winter Swim booked to take over the beach at Mahy Reserve on Sunday.

The annual event is a fundraiser for the Whakatāne Surf Life Saving Club and kicks off at 11am with entry by gold coin donation.

A chilly but fun-filled morning is promised with prizes for the best dressed individual and family. Hot coffee and a barbecue will help restore senses after the icy dip.

Last year’s event attracted 150 participants and this year, Radio 1XX announcer LJ Dobbin, pictured, is hoping to see more than 200 brave souls join her at the starting line.
