Popular Ōpōtiki band Tuna Colada return to the Senior Citizens Hall next weekend with their latest show, Singin' in the Solstice.
The band has built a loyal following in the Eastern Bay, with audiences packing out the venue at their previous performances, including their popular Christmas show in December.
Made up of four talented multi-instrumentalists – Chris Waters on guitar and vocals, Sheryl Waters on guitar, squeezebox, harmonica and vocals, Sandra Thomson on bass, violin and vocals, and Ross Palmer on drums and vocals – Tuna Colada deliver a lively mix of music guaranteed to get toes tapping.
The group has been playing together for about three years after forming through Ōpōtiki’s open mic scene.
Palmer describes their sound as a blend of rock, country blues and Americana.
“We call it rock and country blues, with some Americana thrown in,” he said.
“Some people call us an Americana band, and that wouldn’t be inaccurate as we play songs by Steve Earle, Wilco and others associated with the Americana scene.”
The band’s varied instrumentation gives its music a rich, distinctive sound, while its eclectic repertoire ensures there is something for everyone.
