A 25-point haul to fullback Gavin Causer helped Te Teko keep their winning run in check with a 70-10 victory over Rūātoki at Dunderdale Park.
Texas ran in 10 tries in the victory, with Causer helping himself to one of them and nailing all 10 conversions in what was an impressive showing off the kicking tee.
Goal kicking has been Te Teko’s achilles heel with the side having nailed less than 50 percent of their attempts, although Causer’s arrival looks to have solved that issue.
Te Teko are unbeaten in the EBOP Premier Competition and look to be improving every game.
They managed Saturday’s win without some key personnel – Ruben Chisholm, Nephi Sanerive, Te Manu Herewini and a couple of others.
Rūātoki, to their credit, were also missing some players, but they toiled hard for the entire contest and managed a couple of tries through hard-working second five Lacey Tuhaka and centre Jacob Wera-Cook.
Rūātoki still remain in fourth and look odds on to secure that final semifinal spot, although they will still need to bank a couple of wins to ensure that.
Paroa maintained second spot in the standings with a 63-13 win over Tāneatua at Lawson Park.
First-five Zayden Paul managed to grab himself a hat-trick with an impressive day out, while skipper Kurt Baker continued to show he is one of the best players in the competition with two tries.
Paroa had an off day with the kicking tee as they nailed just four of 11 conversions.
It was a good performance from them at home and one which left them feeling pleased with moving forward.
Fresh off a sublime 80-minute showing for the Paroa B team, Zak Wells showed his silky skills with an impressive cameo off the bench for Paroa.
Again, Baker led the way and Hami Smith continued to shine at number eight, while fellow loose forward Ben Moir got through a mountain of work.
Tāneatua toiled hard for little reward with their loose forward trio of Kerry Nikau, Sitiveni Kutalele and Cade Coxon three of their best.
In the third premier clash, Whakatāne Marist cemented third spot with a 59-28 victory over TVC at Rugby Park.
Marist looked to throw the ball wide early on and it paid dividends, with their backs finding plenty of holes.
Filled with Fijian flair, the green-and-blacks played some silky rugby and winger Joeli Waqabaca used his blistering speed and midfielder Tevita Seruisavou, his skill and power to score four tries each.
Marist managed 11, although they left 18 points out there off the kicking tee, nailing just two of their 11 shots.
It was a spirited showing from TVC, who helped themselves to a four-try bonus point, which could well prove valuable later in the season.
In the EBOP senior reserve grade Edgecumbe managed a 14-13 victory over Waimana at the Waimana Domain.
The other game that took place saw Paroa B run out victors over Matatā 27-14.
Gene Wharewera, Tupaea Te Pou, Wells and Haki Grant played well for Paroa B.
The eight, nine, 10 trio of Michael, George and Louis Playle all played strongly for Matatā.
This weekend, in the senior reserve competition, Paroa B host Edgecumbe in what should be a cracking contest, while Waimana welcomes Poroporo B to the Waimana Domain and Matata host Te Teko B.
In the premier division, Tāneatua play Te Teko, TVC host Poroporo and Paroa play Whakatāne Marist in what should be a cracker at Lawson Park.
