The annual Community Newspaper Awards were held in Auckland last Thursday.

The Beacon Media Group was once again winners in a number of categories.

John Spring, managing director, said he was pleased for the staff to be rewarded for their quality work and effort.

“Especially to Troy Baker for once again his outstanding photography work.”

Winners were:

n Best Community Involvement: Runner-up – Beacon for the Whakatāne Hospital Maternity Downgrade.

■ Best Headline Writer: Beacon – Neryda McNabb (editor).

■ Best Junior News Journalist: Alisha McLennan – Beacon, Ōpōtiki News, and Ita magazine.

■ Best Photographer: Troy Baker – Beacon and Opotiki News.
