Keith Melville, in his letter, Support for dairy, Beacon, Friday, May 22, appears to believe that the dairy industry has a God-given right to pollute our environment at will.
The industry pumps as fertiliser coal dust into the air, methane belches from millions of cows, further polluting our atmosphere. Nitrates spread on the land as fertiliser pollute our rivers, lakes and aquifers.
The water becomes unswimmable, undrinkable, poisonous, the harbinger of cancerous growths.
The dairy industry needs to be held to account for damage it has caused to our beautiful land.
The Government is reprehensible in overturning court action on environmental vandalism.
We, the public, cannot even afford to purchase the butter the dairy industry produces.
