Trident High School’s Shave for a Cure event has raised more than $8000 for cancer research.

With nine students and one teacher taking a seat in front of a cheering crowd, hair was hitting the floor in record time. The atmosphere was light-hearted, yet emotional, with an electric buzz throughout.

Despite the smiles and laughter, the cause remained a serious one, as the crowd clapped and shouted their support.

Among those taking part were father-and-daughter duo Darren and Tilde Florence, who both took their turn in the barber’s chair. For Tilde, participating felt like the right thing to do.

“My sister did this a while ago, so I decided to jump in as well. It’s for a really good cause, so I wanted to do my part,” said Tilde.

Tilde also finished as the top fundraiser, raising an impressive $3013 in two weeks.

The Florence family were not the only relatives to take part, with brother-and-sister pair Illeana and Everett Parker-Platt also choosing to lose their locks together.

One of the final participants to leave the chair was Trident High School’s head boy, Gabriel Aruquipa Southerwood, who opted for a carefully crafted mohawk rather than a full shave.

Trident High School’s commitment to Shave for a Cure has become one of the school’s longest-running annual traditions, with students continuing to support the cause year after year.
