Families from across the Eastern Bay gathered in Edgecumbe on Saturday as Riverslea Mall came alive with laughter, activities and community spirit.

The free Easter community event, organised by Chris Ford Events and emceed by Colin Magee, attracted an estimated 1000 people, with families travelling from across the region to take part.

Riverslea Mall was transformed into a lively community hub featuring children’s activities, an Easter Hunt, entertainment, food trucks and a market showcasing local businesses.

Ms Ford said it was fantastic to see the wider region supporting the event.

“Events like this are about bringing people together, supporting local businesses and creating something fun and positive for families.”

Children took part in the Easter Hunt between 10.30am and 11.30am, moving through activity stations set up throughout the mall before collecting their Easter treats.

Families also enjoyed entertainment throughout the day including two showcase performances by Boots & Beats Line Dancing Whakatāne.

EASTER CROWDS: An estimated 1000 people enjoyed the Easter in Edgecumbe community event.

A highlight for many children was the appearance of the Easter Bunny, who spent time meeting families and posing for photos.

The event featured 18 local stallholders and eight food trucks, with organisers reporting the food vendors sold out during the day, reflecting the strong turnout and community support.

The event was supported by Fonterra Edgecumbe, which brought along its Easter Express road train and handed out more than 300 Anchor CalciYum flavoured milks to children.

Local shops within Riverslea Mall were also open during the event, with visitors taking the opportunity to explore the stores while enjoying the festivities.

The day was hosted by MC Colin Magee, who kept the crowd entertained and guided families through the activities.

Ms Ford said the event would not have been possible without the support of sponsors and partners including Cusack Partners, Riverslea Mall, Beulah Services, Beulah Concrete and Able Precast, alongside the many stallholders, food vendors and volunteers who contributed to the day.

She said the strong turnout highlighted the community spirit that existed across the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

“Seeing so many families enjoying themselves and supporting local businesses made all the planning worthwhile. It really shows how much people value events that bring the community together.”
