A special premiere screening of New Zealand web series Kids Unplugged will celebrate Bay of Plenty youngsters featured in the show next week.

The series launches nationally on April 2, coinciding with the start of the school holidays, with a premiere screening set for 5pm on Wednesday, April 1 at Te Puke Capitol Cinema.

One episode of the series includes Whakatāne’s Jack Karetai-Barrett on his bike, while the whole series tackles one of the biggest issues facing families today – children and screen time.

Each episode follows a young Kiwi stepping away from phones and social media to reconnect with nature, creativity and real-world adventure.

The project comes at a time when research shows 88 percent of New Zealand children exceed recommended screen-time limits.

Kids Unplugged is presented by brothers Malachi, 15, Judah, 12, and Ezra, 7, Steel, and is produced by CommonUnity Lens and directed by Anton Steel.

The series will be available to watch online via YouTube and Instagram (@kidsunpluggednz).
