Suzanne Williams said she left the Whakatāne District Council’s committee meeting a bit confused on the volunteers' proposal to repair the West End to Ōtarawairere track. The agenda item didn’t cover this in any detail.
The reason is that volunteers proposal still has to be fleshed out, before it can be formally presented to council.
Volunteers were aware that council had commissioned several geotechnical reports over the past four years and had asked for access to those, to avoid duplicating important background work required for their proposed track design.
The council would release the geotech reports only after they had been presented to councillors – which was at the February meeting.
Look forward to hearing more from the volunteers proposal, once the geotech information has been used to develop the track repair ideas in detail. And if you want to do a lot of technical reading, those reports are accessible on the council website under “meetings, agendas and minutes”.
