What a disgusting thing to happen to Mr Alby Lewis. To be assaulted for being a Good Samaritan and tidy Kiwi is nothing short of bullying (Beacon, Friday, February 20).
To rub salt into the wound and be told by Whakatāne District Council that the said sign was not their responsibility, was just being fobbed off.
The council will no doubt need the support of the Ōpōtiki District Council, with future pending issues affecting us all.
This matter could have been handled differently. I do hope that there were no fees charged for its proper return.
All the best to Mr Lewis in his recovery.
