The sixth Ōpōtiki Coastguard Show and Shine was held at Memorial Park on Saturday morning as part of the Ōpōtiki Summer Festival.

The annual community event brings together an impressive array of vintage, classic and modern cars, as well as trucks, motorbikes and projects from around the Bay.

All vehicles are registered and competed in various categories with crowd favourites awarded customised Coastguard trophies on the day.

This year, the show had registrations from 17 car clubs from as far away as Taranaki, Hamilton and Rotorua.

As well as a celebration of automotive passion, this year’s event also helped raise vital funds for the Ōpōtiki Coastguard’s new rescue centre.

Ōpōtiki Coastguard president Ron Jones was pleased to have a good day for the event.

“We were down on cars a bit from last year due to the Gisborne road closure and a group from Tauranga not able to make it, but it was still a good day with some interesting cars.

“We haven’t done a final tally up, but hopefully, we made some money for the coastguard too, so thanks to everyone who came down and supported,” he said.
