Letter: Small communities get raw deal

.

I feel sorry for the residents of Rūātoki.

Radio 1XX reports the Whakatāne District Council advises residents of the town to boil water until further notice  due to it being unsafe to drink due to the recent heavy rain.

This has been going on for some considerable time, years in fact, every time it rains heavily.

Once again, the small communities get a raw deal.

I read that Whakatāne District Council’s long-term plan is to build a new water treatment plant. They “expect to begin investigating construction from late 2026”.

Why has it taken so long to do even this?

Too much money spent/wasted on “nice to haves”?
