In response to the cat problem solution suggested by J Rees, (Ōpōtiki News, February 12).
I have implemented three methods suggested by my landlord for keeping cats off the property (water, sprays and mats). They did not work.
I don’t think my landlord would be keen to implement your suggestion of putting “prickly cuttings and branches around her property”.
And why should she? Our submission to council was that by having a cat policy, Ōpōtiki District Council animal control staff could quickly deal with cat problems, like the over-the-top problem on our street.
Yes, OSCA does, as you point out, a good job dealing with cats.
And yes, after desexing they are recycled back into households.
I am happy with that as long as cat numbers do not exceed three per household and not reach the 8 to 12 cats living at one house on our street.
