Police continue to search for a man missing after a water-related incident on the Waioweka River near Ōpōtiki last Friday.
Police were called to the Waioweka River at around 5.30pm after a report that a man had fallen off his boat and was swept downstream.
Emergency services carried out an initial search of the area and located the vessel nearby.
A rescue helicopter and private helicopters were also engaged in the search, as well as local jet boat operators.
Eastern Bay of Plenty Area Commander Inspector Nicky Cooney said the search remains ongoing, with a jet boat deployed daily.
“At this time the Police National Dive Squad is unable to assist in the search, as the river remains too swift and high for them to safely deploy, however, we are hopeful they may be able to assist when conditions improve,” said Ms Cooney.
