Student photographers hold show

Whakatāne photography students will have their work in the spotlight when John Morin Creative hosts its sixth student photography exhibition.

The exhibition, titled Bokeh, will be held this Sunday, from 11am to 3pm at the Art House on the corner of McAlister Street. It is open to the public, with free entry.

The show will feature final projects from the latest cohort of students who completed Morin’s Creative Digital Photography for Beginners course.

Morin said the student exhibitions had become an important part of his teaching kaupapa.

“These exhibitions are a great way to bring the community together and spark conversations around art and storytelling,” he said.

“They also lower the barrier for emerging photographers to share their work publicly, which builds confidence and makes exhibiting feel far less intimidating and more accessible.”

Morin said the eight-week Digital Photography for Beginners course focused on developing a solid foundation, covering manual camera settings, composition, creative storytelling and visual awareness.

The next cohort begins on Tuesday, March 3. For more information, see John Morin Creative on Facebook.
