After last year’s success, the Arts Collective Exhibition is back with an all-new array of art.

The exhibition opens tomorrow at the collective’s pop-up gallery, located in the former Dick Smith building on The Strand, next to Robert Harris café.

It will be open from 10am to 4pm, with entry by gold coin donation.

After Saturday’s opening, the exhibition will be open Tuesday to Sunday for the next month.

Most of the work has come from Eastern Bay artists and craftspeople but there are also some contributions from Tauranga and Mt Maunganui artists.

Ōhope artist David Poole is showing and selling a range of his work and is using the show to fundraise for a six-metre-tall kiwi sculpture he hopes to see installed somewhere in Whakatāne for the public to enjoy

The sculpture by Robert Onnes, an Auckland artist, will be made from Corten steel, which gets a rust appearance when weathered but will not deteriorate.

Poole expects the build to cost $60,000.

Last year’s Arts Collective Exhibition saw an average of 100 people a day, and Poole hopes to see a similar turnout this year.

He encourages people to stop by and check out the art, saying, “there is something for everyone”.
