The Eastern Bay Primary School Athletics competition at Rex Morpeth Park, Whakatāne, was an opportunity for young athletes from 25 primary schools to show their mettle in various sports.
Woodlands School was second and Ōpōtiki Primary School, third.
To compete in the championship, students needed to show their versality in three or more track and field disciplines.
Opotiki Primary School took 19 athletes to the competition, all of whom showed tohetoa (determination) throughout the day.
Mila Wilson was nine-year-old girl champion, with Nia Mason third.
Dayton Beddis and Isaac Kahukiwa were third equal among 11-year-old boys.
Aariyah Onekawa was second overall among 13-year-old girls.
