It’s been another top indoor volleyball season for the Eastern Bay’s Campbell Forsyth.

The Volley Black returned to the region and represented East Coast Old Boys, adding some serious height, skill and firepower into the men’s team.

Forsyth is pleased with how the season went overall.

“It's been a pretty good season; I injured my ankle early in the season and was lucky it healed before club started.”

He produced several standout showings for the Eastern Bay side and helped East Coast Old Boys to an impressive fourth placing at nationals.

“It was mean to win both BOP and Midlands Champs in the lead up to nationals.”

He said it’s been great being able to represent a side from the Eastern Bay.

“It's been awesome this year, half our ECOB team are old teammates from Trident days, so it's been awesome to be back playing together again.

“It's great for Whakatāne as well that we can have such a competitive team that have roots in Whakatāne.”

He said he was pleased with his own form at club nationals and felt the team were good enough to medal.

“I was a little disappointed not to medal, however, I’m keen to go around again next year with the ECOB lads.”

Forsyth was also part of a New Zealand camp recently, which he enjoyed.

“The camp was good. We were split into four teams and played a mini tournament, which was different to usual camps. It was great to be able to play in that kind of format – my team made the finals but lost.”

Forsyth is also a strong beach volleyball player, but this season is keeping off the sand.

“I'm having a break over summer, looking to get back into the gym, a bit of hunting with my brothers and some social netball.”

Another ECOB squad member, Emma Birkett, attended the New Zealand female camp.
