Māori Wards

One of the question people have not asked in relation to Māori wards is “how much Māori land in our district does not have rates charged to it”

The rates come from people who own property and pay money to the council for councillors to improve services to the community.

If ratepayers fail to pay their rates, the council can get a court order to sell their property. However, it appears Māori land is exempt from this process.

Should Māori then also be entitled to Māori wards
