Junior students in year 8 and 9 are being invited to attend a meeting at Whakatāne High School tonight.

The school has announced an inaugural Super 7s Junior Sports Trip to Fiji, providing a chance to players to represent the school in the Pacific.

The new trip will feature boys' rugby 7s and girls' rugby 7s, boys' football 7s and girls' football 7s, and girls' netball.

Whakatane High School director of sport Ben Sexton said it was incredibly exciting for the students to get an opportunity like this.

While in Fiji, students will play games against local clubs and schools, connect with local communities and make new friends. Experience the famous Fijian hospitality and culture firsthand.

“This is more than just a sports trip; it’s an educational adventure. We believe that stepping outside your comfort zone is where real growth happens.”

This trip is open to all students who will be in year 9 and 10 in 2026, so current year 8s and year 9s are encouraged to attend the meeting.

The information evening will be held at the school library at 6.30pm.

Sexton said people needed to get in touch with the school if unable to attend the meeting.

“If you cannot make the information evening but would like to receive information about this trip, then please email [email protected]. We will send you a copy of the presentation and the link to express interest after the meeting.”
