Little plastic ducks will once again have their day on the water as Life Education Trust Eastern Bay of Plenty hosts its second annual duck race fundraiser at Ōhope.
Race day kicks off at 2pm on September 28 from Port Ōhope Wharf, supported by Rotary Whakatāne.
There will be plenty to keep the kids entertained regardless of the weather, with activities being run by Ollie Dobbin in the Wharfside building.
Local businesses can expect to see trust chairperson John Spring popping by to sell corporate ducks at $195 each.
The corporate winner will receive $1000 plus GST of Beaconadvertising. Perhaps even more coveted, though, is the wooden duck trophy crafted by Rotary member Brent Willetts.
Smaller ducks are being sold to individuals for $5 a pop. There will be three winners in this category, with $300 going to the first-place getter, $200 to the second and $100 to the third.
Schools are again being offered the opportunity to sell small duck tickets, with half the income from every ticket they sell being returned to them.
Tickets are also available at the Beacon and 1XX offices.
Approximately 200 people attended last year’s event in beautiful weather, and Mr Spring is hoping to see even more people head along for the springtime fun.
Fundraising contributes significantly to Life Education’s ability to deliver lessons to Eastern Bay schoolchildren through its mobile classroom, helping kids to make good decisions as they grow up.
The trust has operated locally for more than a quarter century.
