Letter: Failure to front

.

It seems that there was very little accountability from a previous prime minster and three MPs in the Labour Party concerning Covid.

Jacinda Ardern, Grant Robertson, Chis Hipkins and Ayesha Veral have a lot to answer for.

They have been asked to front up to a public Royal Commission of enquiry into Covid. All four have chosen to not front up after being questioned by phone. I believe there is a big difference between being questioned by phone compared to being questioned under oath at a public Royal Commission.

The Covid enquiry was to benefit all New Zealanders, so that mistakes are not made and lives not lost in the future.

When Labour leader Chris Hipkins was asked why he would not front up, he said he did not want to set a bad precedent for MPs having to front up for an enquiry when there had not been a similar case before, which is not true.

Apparently, it is possible to subpoena the four politicians, but they are reluctant to do so.

I hope this lack of transparency by the Labour party comes back to bite them at the next election.
