Having entertained locals and visitors to town over the past two weeks, Ōpōtiki Art’s Mind Your P’s exhibition will end at midday Saturday.
Spokeswoman Dorothy Wilson said about 40 percent of those who came to the exhibition were travellers who had been intending to drive through town when they saw signs advertising the exhibition.
“We had something a bit out of the ordinary to show them, this time having placed some lesser seen artistic techniques under the spotlight.
“The exhibition was beautifully curated by Jo Chester and Ngaire Cass, displaying works in pen and wash, pastel, pyrography (wood burning), pencil drawing and a lot more.
One of the biggest sellers turned out to be wooden platters known as “platter boards” – we just kept on selling those.
“We were pleasantly surprised because we didn’t really know how people would respond – it just shows there many people doing different types of art and we need to provide for that.”
The exhibition proved to be a focal point for attracting new members.
“We were demonstrating pottery; about six new people joined because of this,” she said.
The next exhibition, which is to be entitled Small Works, will be held in November.
This will comprise anything at all smaller than an A3 sheet of paper.
“We have this every year and sell a lot of pieces from it; people are keen to buy unique Christmas presents,” Mrs Wilson said.
