Letter: French conversation

.

Nick G

We are a French Conversation group in Whakatāne on the lookout for new members.

We started life within U3A but are now independent because we are open to people of all ages, and it costs nothing to join us.

We meet once a month, on a Friday morning.  We have found that cafés are rather noisy at that time, so we meet in our homes.  Conversation usually revolves around a specific topic, and we have only one firm rule: no Religion or Politics.  We also have visited the Café de Paris in Rotorua, which has a large table set aside for French speakers one Saturday a month. For many people there, French is their first language, and this is a chance to catch up with friends. This is a rather different experience for us!

We have no teachers, because this is not a course in French.  Members either have a reasonable grasp of French already or are well on the way with their learning elsewhere, for example online through Duolingo.

This is an opportunity for such students to practise speaking and listening; we welcome everyone who has an interest, including those for whom French is, or was, their first language.

Si vous souhaitez venir un matin, ou peut-être nous rencontrer pour en savoir plus, n’hésitez pas à contacter le coordinateur du groupe, Nick Gladstone.

Appelez ou envoyez un SMS – 021 751 524.
