Letter: Not tough enough

.

Albie Hulse

I could not believe the pathetic sentence handed down to a 19-year-old who drove drunk last year and ended up killing a totally innocent lady. (Beacon, August 8).

As is so often the case, the innocent person comes off second best.

The offender admitted to drinking 8 to 10 beers on a marae and then getting behind the wheel and driving from Rūātoki and colliding with the victim on White Pine Bush Road.

Why wasn’t the offender sent to prison for at least 10 years. I thought this Government was going to be tough on crime. Really.
