I was delighted to see a proposed reduction to 70kmh over the Rangitaiki River Bridge at Thornton.
My mother was nearly killed there by a speeding learner driver a few years back, and I often have problems emerging from East Bank Road, heading to Whakatāne with fast approaching cars, which I can't see until they are almost over the bridge.
However, I wonder how on earth it will be policed. I suspect it will be ignored by most steady streams of traffic coming from the Tauranga direction.
There is the same problem for cars on West Bank Road from cars coming from Whakatāne. Speed cameras at each side of the bridge would probably finance the second river crossing quite quickly, I suspect.
