In the story about the cancellation of 80 Kainga Ora houses in the Eastern Bay (Beacon, Wednesday August 6), Mayor Victor Luca said it was “quite upsetting” that the projects had been cancelled.

“It’s a bit disappointing, but that’s above my pay grade.”

Surely in a time when housing has never been more difficult and homelessness is rising and at its worst ever, we deserve more from our mayor than this?
