A DaisY Jones hat-trick helped the Whakatāne Town women’s football team maintain their unbeaten run.
They scored some impressive goals to rack up a 9-0 win over the Papamoa Icons and keep their spot at the top of the standings with an 11th straight victory.
Playing in good conditions at Rex Morpeth Park, the home team displayed some beautiful football, for which the Icons had no answer.
Town’s speed and fitness were big factors in putting away the goals, although with the amount of possession and shots they had, the total probably should have been more.
Two superb left-footed strikes from Daisy Jones, followed by a right-footed pearler from outside the box; sealed her an impressive hattrick and a well-deserved player of the day accolade.
Every member of the squad provided value this weekend in what was a satisfying team performance.
Another relentless effort came from left wing Emma Owen, which saw her net two goals to keep the pressure on skipper Abby Brogden in their race for the golden boot.
Right winger Kiahli Lambert was another stand out, netting one but would be disappointed not to have scored more.
Oothers to score were Brogden, Chelsea Brown and Molly Wratt.
Town’s next game is on Sunday at 11am away to Otumoetai, who sit in fifth place in the nine-team competition with two wins.
