The Whakatāne 1XX Mid-Winter Swim is set to make its mark at Ōhope Beach on Sunday.
With strong support from local sponsors, the Radio1XX team is aiming to make this an event to remember.
Promotions and events manager Keziah Barlow is hopeful for favourable weather conditions.
“The forecast is looking good, so people should be able to dry off easily. We’re hoping for a perfect balance of crisp water, hot drinks, and a sizzling sausage sizzle,” she said.
This year sees the introduction of hot chocolate for those brave enough to take the plunge, thanks to First Credit Union Whakatāne.
Other generous sponsors such as Cadera and Ōhope Beach Four Square are also supporting the event with a range of prizes and giveaways.
“We’ve got prizes for the first person in the water, best dressed, age group winners, and plenty of spot prizes,” Ms Barlow said.
The event will be held outside the Whakatāne Surf Life Saving Club at Ōhope beach, with lifeguards and volunteers on hand to ensure everything runs safely and smoothly.
Registrations open at 10.30am and the official start time is 11am.
Entry is by gold coin with all proceeds going to support the surf club.
