Whakatāne High School's Interact Club has once again shown the power of a student-led initiative, raising $2500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation at their annual Pink Ribbon Breakfast, held recently at the Baptist Church.
The event drew a full house of 65 guests, including Whakatāne Mayor Victor Luka, and was led entirely by a sub-committee of senior students. Head girl Cassie Bennett served as MC, while Holly Mees delivered a moving and well-received speech.
Teacher-in-charge Linda Bonne praised the efforts of both students and volunteers, especially returning chef Louise Paulsen and her assistant Kevin – former WHS head boy.
“We thank Louise so much for continuing to support WHS Interact with the Pink Ribbon Breakfast over the last six years.”
Hamish McPherson, WHS Interact Club President for 2025, hosted the quiz portion of the morning, with student Bea Knapton taking top honours. A raffle and auction added to the fundraising efforts, with all proceeds going directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation thanks to event costs being fully covered by the Interact Club.
“We would particularly like to thank our very generous sponsors for their contribution in making the event another very successful WHS Interact event," said Mrs Bonne.
