The Ōpōtiki Repair Cafe moves to its new venue this Saturday.

The repair cafe, which works closely with Ōpōtiki District Council on its waste minimisation plan, will be open at the Ōpōtiki Arts Society in King Street, from 10am to noon.

The repair cafe has been operating for nearly two years and has repaired many items for Ōpōtiki people, including musical instruments, clothing, watches, jewellery, electrical goods and wooden items.

Spokeswoman Meg Collins said they had a great team of repairers, but we were on the lookout for more, particularly someone to relace watch batteries and repair bikes, furniture and electronic items such as phones and computers.

“We have all the tools and batteries for the watches,” Mrs Collins said.

“We are unable to fix bikes at the moment because in many cases, parts are required, but it would be great if someone who is familiar with bike repairs could come and advise the bike owners how to fix their own bikes and what parts and action is required.

“We would also welcome someone with woodwork skills as we often have items such as chairs or tables that need fixing.”

“If anyone has anything to offer, two hours a month, please pop in on Saturday and meet the team.”
