Work to relocate four streetlights from the intersection of State Highway 2 and Wainui Road, west of Ōpōtiki, will be taking place today and will continue to for three to five days.
Waka Kotahi says the plan is to disconnect two to three streetlights at a time and reconnect them the following day.
While this work is taking place, there will be a shoulder closure in place until Monday, May 26.
Motorists are asked to follow the temporary traffic management, including the 50kmh speed limit.
The streetlights will be moved between 2 to 5 metres from their current positions to enable construction of the SH2/Wainui Road Matekerepu roundabout to continue.
The roundabout is part of the SH2 Wainui Road to Ōpōtiki safety improvements project.
