Get ready for a night of laughter, amazement, and personal discovery when Haiming Jiang’s hit Comedy Hypnosis Show comes to Ōpōtiki next week.
Jiang takes the stage at the Deluxe Theatre on Wednesday, May 21, at 7pm, following a sold-out performance in Whakatāne earlier this year – a show so popular, he had to schedule an extra night.
Blending traditional Chinese Qigong with modern hypnotic techniques, Jiang’s style of interactive entertainment transforms willing audience volunteers into the stars of the night.
From hilarious antics to jaw-dropping demonstrations of the mind’s power, the show offers more than just laughs – it delivers real insight into how our beliefs shape our lives.
“So many people tell me they laugh from beginning to end,” says Jiang.
“Some say they’ve never laughed like that in their life. That’s the feedback I get.”
But beyond the comedy, Jiang sees his show as an opportunity to teach and inspire.
“Every show, I help people understand how powerful their beliefs are,” he said.
“If you believe you’re not good enough, your actions will prove that. But if you believe in yourself, so many amazing things will happen in your life.”
In one routine, he hypnotises a volunteer to believe a phone on stage is too heavy to lift – and sure enough, they’re unable to pick it up, and in fact, push it down. The message? Belief shapes reality.
“He is pushing the phone down because he believes he cannot pick up the phone. His action automatically follows to prove his belief.”
Jiang explains that self-hypnosis can be a tool for personal growth, helping people to overcome self-doubt and change limiting beliefs.
For him, entertainment and empowerment go hand in hand.
Originally an IT engineer and search engine optimisation expert, Jiang’s fascination with the mind led him to study neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and hypnotherapy.
A decade as a confidence coach followed before he made the leap into entertainment.
“About seven years ago, a friend – also a hypnotist – suggested we learn comedy hypnosis. It started as a hobby.
“Two years ago, I turned it into a profession.”
Putting his powerful belief in himself to action he now has packed out shows and is doing a five-month New Zealand tour and does three- to five shows a week before he heads over to Australia.
He’s also the author of The ABCD Coaching Method, available on Amazon, and shares motivational content as a coach and influencer across social platforms.
“People think hypnosis is about control,” he said.
“It’s actually about freeing the mind.”
