Alice Cameron’s letter (Beacon, April 30) is typical of the conjecture put forward by proponents of the “Critical Race Theory”.
In essence, the strategy is used to purge those who disagree. They are made to feel shame-filled, nicely suggested to shush, and moved aside by the fake minority.
The belief is that they should be distilled into a mindless majority that can be controlled.
Freedom of speech is a right we all have. It may not be to your liking, however, that doesn’t make it irrelevant.
Ms Cameron says she looks forward to “New Voices that build bridges, spark fresh ideas”.
We have already been there. It has resulted in a world first-class Treaty Settlements process that has funded a $70 billion-plus Māori economy.
Yet, a Māori law professor from Auckland University (taxpayer funded), Claire Charters, in her recent address to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, stated that: “New Zealand’s policy on the Declaration (on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) sits alongside its legislative strategy to dismantle Māori rights in Aotearoa New Zealand, which has received global attention for its regressiveness.”
This same university has made it mandatory for all first-year undergraduates starting this year to pay for and enrol in Waipapa Taumata Rua Māori Course.
Ms Cameron appears to suggest that this example of indoctrination through dictatorial dogmatism should not be challenged.
Then we have the Māori Party, while being funded as members of the New Zealand Parliament, fostering hatred and division throughout. They don’t try to hide it. They refused to attend the New Zealand Privileges Committee hearing to address their disrespect for the people of New Zealand’s representative body.
To proclaim separatism, they were holding their own hearing.
The Critical Race Theory model is what bought Trump into power; the majority made a stand against the woke agenda and the division there is frightening.
Let us have open and honest debate, let all the people speak.
If the Treaty of Waitangi is being manipulated to rewrite the laws of the land instead of Parliament doing the job, then this affects all New Zealanders.
David Seymour simply started a conversation and regardless of your attempts, it won’t be dampened down, because New Zealanders have built a country on hard work and a good amount of moral aptitude.
It hasn’t been gifted; it was done through personal struggle by all accounts.
