On behalf of the “Keep Whakatane District Beautiful” committee, can I compliment the businesses, and the residents based in King Street for the litter-free condition of this street.

In many streets where volunteers do a rubbish pick up, we can fill a large rubbish bag in a 200-metre stretch. On King Street recently, we only filled half a bag after walking the full length of the street on both sides of the road, including the business section.

Most of the rubbish collected was from outside half a dozen specific properties, the rest of the street was litter free.

Our conclusion is that those who take pride in their business or residential property, include the area of kerbing directly outside the front of their property as part of their responsibility. Well done King Street.
