Everyday Heroes of the Eastern Bay will be honoured at an event tomorrow night.
Trident High School is behind the celebratory event, which with the support of local businesses is helping to raise funds for a school volleyball tour to Japan.
Organiser Claire Lowe said 24 heroes had been nominated in four categories; for services to the community, the elderly, to youth and those in need.
On Saturday night, winners will be announced in each category along with a supreme winner and people’s choice award.
Winners will receive a trophy and a gift.
Mrs Lowe, whose daughter is in the volleyball team, came up with the idea while driving to work.
“I thought, there are so many people in this community that deserve recognition and go unnoticed. It’s similar to the business awards, but for people,” she said.
She said she would have been happy to have 10 nominees but was delighted when 24 people were nominated.
“Congratulations to all the nominees and thank you for all your contributions to our community,” she said.
“And thank you to the sponsors. Without their contributions, this would be a bit of a mission to put together.”
Local businesses sponsored a table for each of the nominees and their friends and family to attend the event. All proceeds will go towards sending the school’s 21 volleyball players to Japan for 10 days.
Mrs Lowe said the volleyballers and their families had been “amazing” with their contributions to fundraising efforts.
Students would be waiting tables during the evening.
