Twenty-nine cars turned out at the BOP Mustang Owners Club’s fundraiser for Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The club picks a local Whakatāne charity each year to fundraise for during their annual club visit to the town.

Club president Kevin Uncles said they had a range of cars, very early to very late models, from 1966 through to a 2024 Dark Horse Mustang and two 2025 models.

“The weather was perfect – as it always is in Whakatāne,” he said.

He said they would definitely return to fundraise for another charity next year.

“It’s our annual run, we love coming to Whakatāne, people are friendly,” he said.

Bryce Sheedy, chief executive of Eastern Bay Hospice, said it was a “great day”.

“We had about nine of our team there, staff and volunteers, and we had some good chats.”

He said the charity was “very stoked” to be picked this year by the BOP Mustang Owners Club and One Double X, with $300 raised towards Hospice.

“To run our service, we only have 42 percent funding from the Government, so every little bit helps,” he said.

Hospice staff and volunteers were also invited to help with the judging of the Mustangs.

For anyone still wanting to contribute, hospice EBOP is continuing its Driving Big Changes campaign this year, where individuals can pay $20 towards Hospice to have their name on one of the hospice vehicles.

“We have 140 names so far, and we can have 1000, so we still have a bit to go,” Mr Sheedy said.

Businesses can also contribute $500 to have their names and social media details on the front of hospice cars.

Anyone wanting to find out more can do so through the Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty website.
