Doing for the Community

Grey Power advocates on behalf of its members who tend to be the over 50s demographic and runs a seminar programme aimed at letting folk know what is going on in our community.

Nestled within our community exists a rich tapestry of charity and support organisations that often go under the radar.

This intricate network of charity and support organisations perform minor miracles and include organisations such as the well-known Salvation Army, Hospice, the Financial Mentoring Service and the Citizens Advice Bureau to name but a few.

At our next hui to be held next week on Thursday, April 17hstarting at 10am, we are having two very interesting speakers.

The first speaker will be Vivienne Barr of The Eastern Bay Community Foundation(EBCF) which is a charitable trust connecting people to the causes that are important to them - either in a legacy in their will, or to be part of Living Giving.

The Women’s Impact Fund is a giving circle of local women and was initiated in the Eastern Bay by trustees from the EBCF, in 2021. In the past three years, this fund has given over $130,000 back to the community in support of local women and children.

Donors are being sought for the fourth round of this “pass through fund”. Over $24,000 has already gifted and it is hoped to grow the fund as much as possible before August when the donors partake in deciding, who the funds will be distributed to.

This is local people giving to local causes. It is expected that both the foundation manager and the engagement manager will also be present at the meeting. There will be a short video presentation.

The second speaker will be Fiona Wiremu of the Māori Women’s Welfare League or Te Rōpū Wāhine Māori Toko I te Ora.

The league is a New Zealand welfare organisation supporting Māori women and children. It held its first conference in Wellington in September 1951. Fiona will speaking about all the marvellous things that they do.

All are welcome.
