Radio IXX is throwing a Pyjama Party on Friday to collect donations for The Clothing Project.
The Clothing Project has run a pyjama drive every April for more than five years, with new pyjamas donated and collected for children up to age 12, then distributed to families in need.
Alternatively, people can donate $10 towards a pair of pyjamas.
Donations can be dropped on Friday or anytime in April to Radio 1XX’s office on the Strand, or to Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea at 29A King Street in Ōpōtiki.
Promotions manager Keziah Barlow said the station wanted to “make a day of it”.
“It’ll be us dressing up in our PJs at work to promote the cause and make it fun, and we’ve invited other businesses to join us,” she said.
“The Clothing Project is a great charity and helps our most vulnerable people in the community. They make sure our kids are clothed during hard times.
“We hope that it’s going to get a good response from the community.”
Breakfast announcer LJ Dobbin reportedly has some “crazy” Elmo pyjamas to don for the occasion, and even the station’s cardboard cutout Justin Bieber is pyjama-ed up for the week.
New World Kawerau, New World Whakatāne and New World Ōpōtiki are sponsoring the event.
New World Kawerau has already donated 58 pairs of new pyjamas.
The Clothing Project Founder Amy Revell said the charity was excited to have the support of Radio 1XX.
“We have a lot of ideas for stuff at the clothing project, but we don’t necessarily have the manpower to carry them out. Having other businesses support us makes a real difference,” she said.
She said the April Pyjama drives created an annual awareness about the Clothing Project and the need in the community.
“We really appreciate the community support. It helps us do what we do.
“We’re excited to see that the total is going to be this year.”
