Anyone living in Kawerau district with an interest in standing in this year’s local body election should mark May 28 on their calendar.

Kawerau District Council will be holding two candidate information evenings for those people interested in putting themselves forward.

The elections are an opportunity for those who want to be involved in shaping the future of the community.

The first of the candidate evenings will be in the Kawerau Concert Chambers, starting at 5pm and finishing at 8pm.

The date has yet to be set for the second event.

Nominations for candidates in local elections for all districts open on July 4 and close on August 1. Candidates’ names will be made public on August 6 before voting documents are posted between September 9 and September 22.

Voting closes at noon on October 11.
