Six weeks in, Pilates Club on Commerce Street is already seeing classes fully booked.

Owner Taylah Drabble’s hobby-turned-business is off to a “really, really good,”, which she is finding encouraging.

Ms Drabble has been a personal trainer for the past decade and is passionate about helping people become fit and healthy.

Pilates focuses on improving core strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness.

Ms Drabble became interested in as part of her own training journey.

“I always worked more with strength training, working the larger muscles, and I was always getting injured. With Pilates, I was able to work on my little muscle groups, my balance, core and posture.

“I used it for preventing injury; it was great for stabilising all my muscles. I got addicted to it.”

When the gym she was a personal trainer at closed, she decided to start reformer training.

“I’ve found being a reformer instructor works really well with my personal training experience,” she said.

“What I love about Pilates is that it’s so adaptable. If you have an injured back, or you’re not so versatile, we can change the resistance on the spring-loaded machines,” she said.

Most movements can be adapted for any injury or specific requirements of a client.

“I can personalise the class for anyone who might be injured or pregnant; it’s all adaptable and we can change the movements.”

Clients of the Pilates Club can train either individually or in a class, with a one-on-one introductory session recommended for newcomers.

She has male and female clients, aged anywhere between 16 to late 70s.

“It’s for anyone really, of any fitness level. You could just be starting out moving your body.

“It’s a nice exercise – you don’t leave feeling hammered, and your nervous system feels good after."
