Every year the Government increases our superannuation by the cost of living or by inflation and every year, our council take this increase away by increasing our rates. It is about time this habit stopped; the council should only spend what monies it has and not borrow to spend on what they think we should have.
I could make a list of council waste, but this could be endless and take too long,
A lot of our retirees are retiring to other areas such as Papamoa and Katikati because they can longer afford to live here. Is this right? To force people to leave their friends and families.
Look at our shops in town; we don’t have many. When I came to live here 30 years ago, the town was full of small shops – not any more, it only has service shops, nails, hair, takeaways. Could rates be to blame?
