Hot off the Press explores world of print

Eighteen artists from the Eastern Bay, across New Zealand and even an overseas creative are lined up for a new art exhibition, Hot off the Press.

Llyr Williams is the organiser of the art show, which will be held as part of the West End Wiggle surfing competition, which is running simultaneously.

The art show opens at Ōhope’s Wharfside on Friday, April 11, and is on until Sunday, April 13.

"Hot off the Press is focused on all things print,” said Williams.

Hot Off the Press invites you to experience the world of print in all its forms, offering a fresh perspective on how art, technology, and craftsmanship collide.

Williams said the art show would dive into the vibrant and dynamic world of print, where every image tells a story, every technique adds texture, and every process leaves its mark.

“This exhibition celebrates the diversity of print mediums – from the ancient tradition of woodblock carving to the cutting-edge possibilities of 3D printing.”

Each work on display will reflect a journey through the art of reproduction, where artists transform raw materials into powerful visual statements, he said.

“Whether through the deep indigo of a cyanotype, the raw energy of photography, or the innovative potential of modern technology, printmaking serves as a canvas for experimentation and expression.”

Williams said as you explore, you could think of the printed image as a physical artefact and a cultural bridge connecting the past with the present, tradition with invention.

Williams said the show would feature artists from Ōhōpe, Ōpōtiki, Gisborne, Auckland, Wellington, Paeroa, The Mount, Tauranga, Whangarei, Orewa and Santa Cruz in the United States.
