Letter: Living wage is vital

I am writing to express my dismay at this Government’s plan to  remove the living wage in contracts for cleaning, catering and security services.

The living wage is a vital social issue as it allows families to live with dignity and participate in their community.

Our area is not a wealthy area, in fact one of the lowest wealth demographic areas in the country, and any decrease to wages coupled with rising living costs will see increased hardship on families and our community.

No one in our country, including working people, should be struggling to put food on the table.

This Government’s plan to remove the living wage requirement shows National does not care about working people, in particular the people who keep our schools, hospitals and public buildings running.

This decision is not “growth”.
