Despite losing its favoured position in the CBD about two years ago, the Ōpōtiki Lions Club Market Day was still pulling in plenty of weekend shoppers, said treasurer Chris Comyns.

The event is held at Woodlands Hall on the second Saturday of the month.

“It’s a great day out for a lot of people, providing an opportunity to look over the produce, plants, preserves, clothes, toys, artworks, hand-made cards, wood turning, curios and so forth.

“Of course, there’s also a refreshment truck on hand to provide morning tea.

“With just $10 charged to stall holders, we attract a good range of stalls for the public to enjoy.”

The 16-member club is on the lookout for new members.

“It’s a rewarding club to be involved with,” said Mr Comyns.

“We raise funds for worthy causes, including youth organisations, the fire brigade, St John and the coastguard. And we manage to have plenty of fun at the same time.

“The market day provides something positive to do on Saturday in Ōpōtiki – a real focal point for the community.
